Black Friday has delivered for Retailers with the strongest year-on-year sales week in six months.
· Black Friday weekend (Friday to Sunday) store visits were 70% higher than an average weekend, with the data showing consumers have postponed sales activity in recent weeks in anticipation of Black Friday promotions.
· Store visits (inside traffic) during the Black Friday week were only marginally down on last year (-1.7%) due to a strong lift in shopfront conversion (up 12.7% on Black Friday week last year) despite weak passer-by traffic (down 12.7% on last year).
· Black Friday week sales were down 3.4% on last year, the smallest decline seen since early May this year.
· Black Friday week sales were strongest in Victoria, NSW and across CBD and Outlet locations.
· Apparel, health and beauty retailers experienced the strongest lift in sales performance this week.
· Despite the heavy discounting across the market, average transaction value was up 1.6% on last year driven by a higher average price per unit.
